Jesus and the Father: Prayer
Why did Jesus spend so much time in prayer, particularly when he was making big decisions in life, like choosing his Apostles?
Maybe, like us, he needed to spend time in prayer and reflection in order to know God his loving Father better and find out what God wants.
Even the relationship between Jesus and the Father needed communication in order to grow.
Today’s Prayer
Preparation: Begin by stilling; then dedicating the time of prayer to God and asking God that all you think, feel and imagine are for the glory of God.
Gift: Ask for what you desire. Suggestion: That God may really communicate with you in prayer.
Setting: Imagine you see Jesus going off to pray, then he returns in the morning.
Does he choose you?
Luke 6: 12-16 HCSB
During those days Jesus went up the mountain to pray
and spent all night in prayer to God.
When daylight came, He summoned His disciples,
and He chose twelve of them—He also named them apostles:
Simon, whom He also named Peter,
and Andrew his brother;
James and John;
Philip and Bartholomew;
Matthew and Thomas;
James the son of Alphaeus,
and Simon called the Zealot;
Judas the son of James,
and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
Conversation: Imagine you are talking to the Jesus, what do you want to say?
How might He reply?
Final prayer: Finish with a formal prayer such as the Lord’s Prayer/Our Father.
