Day 25

Today’s Picture: Miracle of the Bread and Fish by Giovanni Lanfranco

Jesus reaches out to those in need: The Hungry

Faced with vastly more than 5,000 hungry people and one tiny source of food Jesus doesn’t follow his disciples suggestion of turning the people away,
but somehow manages to make the food sufficient for all.
How this happens we do not know.
Before we write this miracle off as beyond us, or the imagination of the evangelists,

it is worth recognising that many have found that the Lord does seem to provide when people reach out and try to meet the needs of those who are suffering.

Today’s Prayer

Preparation: Begin by stilling; then dedicating the time of prayer to God and asking God that all you think, feel and imagine are for the glory of God.

GiftAsk for what you desire.  Suggestion: To fill my hunger.

Setting: Imagine the story as a disciple or a person in the crowd.

Mark 6:34-43 HCSB

So as Jesus stepped ashore, He saw a huge crowd and had compassion on them,
because they were like sheep without a shepherd.
Then He began to teach them many things.

When it was already late, His disciples approached Him and said,
“This place is a wilderness, and it is already late!
Send them away, so they can go into the surrounding countryside and villages to buy themselves something to eat.”

“You give them something to eat,” He responded.
They said to Him, “Should we go and buy 200 denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”
And He asked them, “How many loaves do you have? Go look.”
When they found out they said, “Five, and two fish.”
Then He instructed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in ranks of hundreds and fifties.
Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven,

He blessed and broke the loaves.
He kept giving them to His disciples to set before the people.
He also divided the two fish among them all.
Everyone ate and was filled.
Then they picked up 12 baskets full of pieces of bread and fish.
Now those who ate the loaves were 5,000 men.

Conversation: Talk to Christ in your own words as a friend.

Final Prayer: End with a formal prayer such as the Lord’s Prayer/Our Father.
