Today’s Picture: Caught in the Storm by Alice Robertson
Jesus reaches out to those in need: The Fearful
The disciples in their fear of being overwhelmed by the waves turn to Jesus.
He calms their fears and remarkably calms the sea.
You can take this story literally, or you can consider it metaphorically.
What are the storms in your life that need calming.
Were there times you felt overwhelmed?
Do you feel as if you are living in stormy waters at the moment?
Today’s Prayer
Preparation: Begin by stilling; then dedicating the time of prayer to God and asking God that all you think, feel and imagine are for the glory of God.
Gift: Ask for what you desire. Suggestion: To remove any unfounded fears I may have.
Setting: Consider the Bible passage below; you can imagine you are one of the disciples or even Jesus.
Matthew 8:23-27 HCSB
As Jesus got into the boat, His disciples followed Him.
Suddenly, a violent storm arose on the sea,
so that the boat was being swamped by the waves.
But He was sleeping.
So the disciples came and woke Him up,
saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to die!”
But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, you of little faith?”
Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea.
And there was a great calm.
The men were amazed and asked,
“What kind of man is this?—even the winds and the sea obey Him!”
Conversation: Talk to Christ in your own words as a friend.
You may want to talk about what this passage from Matthew raises for you,
or the storms in your own life.
Final Prayer: End with a formal prayer such as the Lord’s Prayer/Our Father.
