Love
Probably everyone would echo the words of the song, ‘I wanna know what love is. I want you to show me.’ (Foreigner). Today’s Scripture responds to that desire. God, who is love and the source of love, shows us what love is – not simply a feeling, but self-giving action for the good of the loved one, the beloved. Catherine of Siena goes so far as to say, “Eternal Trinity you are madly in love with your creatures”. As God’s beloved, God wants us to be loved and, as a response, to love others.

Today’s Prayer
Preparation: Begin by stilling; then dedicating the time of prayer to God and asking God that all you think, feel and imagine are for the glory of God.
Gift: Ask for what you desire. Suggestion: To know Jesus more clearly, love him more dearly, and follow him more nearly.
Setting: A Scripture reading to ponder – Lectio Divina.

1 John 4: 7-12 NCB
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. God’s love was revealed to us in this way: God sent his only-begotten Son into the world so that we might have life through him.
This is what love is: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we should love one another.
No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is made complete in us.
