Love
Today’s hymn to love shows us what the love is like, which the Spirit grows within us.
You are invited to spend time today sitting in the presence of God, who is love, with this hymn to love.
Which characteristics of love call to you?
Which do you long to see more of and have grown in your life and relationships?
Today’s Prayer
Preparation: Begin by stilling; then dedicating the time of prayer to God and asking God that all you think, feel and imagine are for the glory of God.
Gift: Ask for what you desire. Suggestion: That I may better live in love.
Setting: A Scripture reading to ponder – Lectio Divina.
Scripture
1 Corinthians 13: 4-8, 13 NCB
Love is patient; love is charitable.
Love is not envious; it does not have an inflated opinion of itself;
it is not filled with its own importance.
Love is never rude; it does not seek its own advantage.
It is not prone to anger; neither does it brood over setbacks.
Love does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices in the truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails.
Thus there are three things that endure: faith, hope, and love,
and the greatest of these is love.
Conversation: Talk to Jesus in your own words as a friend
Final Prayer: End with a formal prayer such as the Lord’s Prayer/Our Father.
Today’s Music
Love will Never Fail – Leslie Jordan & The Porters Gate
For This is Love – Jenny Ross
From noon each day he sits there on the pale green chair
Quietly holding her hand
Married for too many years to remember and
Now – she has wandered away almost out of reach
To the door of the sepulchre
Her hand encrusted with old age and gold rings
Her fingers clasp his close as wordless ties
She speaks soundlessly
And into the imperfections and failings of body and mind
Pours the richest of gifts
As his eyes speak to her soul and draw her close
Desiring only that she knows that he is here.
He smiles and heaven opens wide her heart
with sunbeams
Caressing her face
For this is Love in the afternoon
Sitting gently on the pale green chair.
