Trustfulness
Today’s Gospel passage from Luke follows the story of the unjust steward who upon hearing he is to be sacked, gets his master’s debtors to reduce their debts and thus be grateful to him when he loses his job. Trustfulness works two ways. We need to trust in God, but also others need to be able to trust us.
Love of money is the root of all evil?
Today’s Prayer
Preparation: Begin by stilling; then dedicating the time of prayer to God and asking God that all you think, feel and imagine are for the glory of God.
Gift: Ask for what you desire. Suggestion: To know Jesus more clearly, love him more dearly, and follow him more nearly.
Setting: You may like to imagine Jesus saying these words to those who Luke says loved money.
Imaginative Contemplation.
Luke 16: 10-15 NIVUK
Jesus said:
‘Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?’
‘No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.’
The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus.
He said to them, ‘You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others,
but God knows your hearts.
What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.’
Conversation: Talk to Jesus in your own words as a friend
Final Prayer: End with a formal prayer such as the Lord’s Prayer/Our Father.
A Poem

The Shore
I long for you, beloved, as the ocean wave yearns to pour itself out upon the shore.
I ache for my true homing, a wind battered sea bird wearying for landfall.
For you are my land, my shore, my harbour.
And in the depths of my littleness, you are the star that guides me home.
Today’s Music
Nothing really too challenging today musically!
