Mary in Scripture

As a retreat giver I have found that people can often be divided into two when it comes to Mary the mother of Jesus. There are those for whom Mary plays a large role in their spirituality, and there are those, often from the Reformed tradition, who shy away from Mary. However, when praying over Gospel stories, very many of this second group of people have found Mary, as she is presented in Scripture, an attractive and down to earth figure who is easy to identify with and who speaks to us through the ages.

We invite you to get to know the very human mother of Jesus from the Scripture.
Imagine how you might have felt if you had been in her situation.
Notice how she reacted to the various strange, painful and confusing events of her life.
What echoes do these events have in your own life?

Use these ten prayer pages as best suits you: ten days of prayer, one day every week, or every month. You may wish to repeat each day until you have received all that God wants to give you from it. If you are a bit unsure of how to use the material in prayer, you can check out our ‘methods of prayer’ pages.

The team at the Ignatian Spirituality Centre in Glasgow hope that you find this series of meditations fruitful.
